School Fundraising with Shoparoo

Shoparoo

Schools are starting up again, and for many parents that means participation in fundraising. I recently stumbled onto a new school fundraising option: Shoparoo.  Shoparoo is an app available for both the iPhone and Android phones.

Shoparoo is very simple:
Sign up and select the school of your choice.
Shop at your local grocery, supercenter, or drugstore.
Take pictures of your receipts and upload them to Shoparoo.

Roo Points are granted based on the receipt totals:
Less than $10 = 10 Roo Points
$10 – $50 = 20 Roo Points
$50 – $100 = 30 Roo Points
$100+ = 40 Roo Points

There are also oppertunities to earn bonus points for your school. For example, one current offer is “Win $10,000 for your school plus 50 bonus Roo Points when you purchase 2 or more qualifying Quaker products at Walmart.”

Note:  If you submit your receipts to ReceiptHog, you will NOT be able to submit them to Shoparoo too.  They do share a database, and the second submission will be tagged as a Duplicate Receipt.

Shoparoo does not require the school to have a coordinator either.

Convenient Sites for Cheap Textbooks

Textbooks

College students, and parents of college students know all too well how expensive text books can be.  The following sites may help with some of that expense:

Affordabook – Comparison shopping via their 20 partner sites.

Amazon – Low prices on new and used books, of course Amazon has text books!

BargainBookMole.org – A comparison site.  Offers a downloadable browser add-on in addition to the website for quick searching.

BigWords – Buy, Rent or Sell textbooks.

BookFinder – A comparison site, has a special focus on international editions, allowing users to search for books written in Dutch, English, French, German, Italian or Spanish.

BookRenter – Rent textbooks, free shipping and free returns.  Return within 21-days with no charges.

Campus Book Rentals – Another textbook rental site, but this one allows highlighting.  You also have the option to rent out your old textbooks and earn a little money.

Chegg – An online community for students.  Buy or rent textbooks, read course evaluations, post questions to a live community for help with homework.

Get Textbooks – a very simplified site for looking for textbooks.  Offers price comparisons.

Half – Sister site to eBay.  Choose books by condition, price, and or location of seller (for possibly a speedier transaction).  If you are an eBay user, you will use your eBay ID for buying.

Skyo – Options to buy or rent textbooks.  Rentals are unique in that you can choose the length of time in which you rent the book, possibly saving money on rental fees.

Johnson’s Baby Products $1.99 @ Fry’s

FrysJJsale

Fry’s currently has many Johnson & Johnson products on sale for $2.99.  With the following coupons, you can get full size products for just $1.99.

This is also a great sale if you have a baby shower coming up.  Just last year I put together a gift basket for a co-worker’s baby shower.  Put those couponing skills to work and give a great gift that won’t break the bank.

Baby Shower Gift Idea

I wanted to put together a gift basket for a co-worker and his wife who are expecting.  I decided to put my coupon experience to work.  I thought about all of the things we use or used for our little ones and made a list of things that would come in handy.  I waited for each of the items to be on sale and paired the sales with coupons.

I bought a basket at Michael’s when I had a 40% off one item coupon.  I’m not a big fan of making a gift basket with cellophane, so I thought I’d try something new, tulle.  It is light weight, it comes in a variety of colors, you can see through it, and it’s affordable.

To assemble the basket, I lined the basket with the tulle.  I then placed two receiving blankets in to cover the bottom and sides.  Then I arranged each of the items in the basket.

P1000642Simply pull the tulle up and gather it at the top. Tie it off with some decorative ribbon (purchased at Michael’s with a 40% off coupon), and trim the tulle as needed.
